It’s annoying, spammy, and makes subscribing to a blog pointless. It did however stop the spam as it appears spam bots tend to go more for blogs that have no updates at all. However, for one reason or another, I will have more time to update my blog over the coming months. So fingers crossed, I won’t need that again!

Apple iPhone 2G advert banned

So Apple’s UK advert for ‘All parts of the Internet’ on the iPhone has been banned. It’s taken them long enough, the advert was for the old 2G phone, not the new one. It’s also well over 6 months old.

I was getting this a lot in ESXi 3.5 with OpenSolaris snv_95. Until I spotted a useful snippet on the OpenSolaris forums.

I thought, what the hell. I ssh’d into the ‘host’ (you need to enable it, instructions can be found here) and then went to the vm’s directory in vmfs and deleted the .nvram file. Then started up the VM again and the problem was all gone! Woohoo! No more 1986 vm. Now if only the other problems with performance could be sorted.

The 25 Year Old UNIX Bug

1983: The year of the IBM PC XT, the Apple Lisa, Pioneer 10 leaving the solar system, and Hooters opening up shop in Florida. It’s also the birthyear of a 25 year old UNIX bug, squashed only a few days ago.

(I wonder why the bug wasn’t submitted to relevant maintainers when it was found)

New Facebook Messenger

Facebook have put a new web based messenger at the bottom of your browser whenever you are on Facebook.

I find it very annoying, so I have made a quick GreaseMonkey script to get rid of it.

I have tested this with FF3 – Safari doesn’t work for some reason – I might fix that later.

Although I am an almost full time OSX user, I still have to use Windows to do such things as writing Windows Applications and test harnesses for theories in the Anti-Cheat area. I actually prefer doing that in VMWare Fusion (now my Macbook Pro has 4GB of RAM, this is possible).
